The Tamil Baptist Church has started its mission from year 2000. From the begining Tamil Baptist Church has always volenteered and involved with social welfare and mission in SriLanka. Todays pathatic situation in which our peoples are facing, so its our duty to raise and built our nation. Our loved ones has faced the worst humanitarian disaster of the decade. So our initial step was to give a safe and healthy environment for the younger generation, by adopting 25 childs who are sevearly affected in the cruel war during that period in the East of SriLanka. The orphens where taken care by opening a refuge home called ’ADAIKALAM’ in Eastern SriLanka. And we are running it untill 2009, even though the home was damaged in Tsunami, we reconstructed it with upgradations. As its known we have raised many funds and did a huge mission in the Tsunami effected areas like fulfilling their basic needs as helping the injured, supply food, clothes and built houses.
We found an tribe village called ‘’MALYARUGU’’ which is closed to KARADIYANAARU which the area was known for former militants base, as it was hidden from the World for atleast 4 decades and it contains 42 families, and they are totaly off from litracy and they are traveling towards an dark future. In case we coordinate with sarvodaya(NGO) to built houses for all families and an nursary school for the welfare of this unknown village.
Also from 2006 we are supporting 5 Pastors who are ministering in a extream tribe villages to develop and upgrade the lif styles of the tribes and giving education for them, and pastors families who are ministering among the very poor and remote peoples. So when ever there is a problem in SriLanka our Pastor and Tamil Baptist Church volenteers to do mission.
Tamil baptist Church has also established a School ( Good Shepherd Institute of education) from 2003 to 2010 in Oslo which runs every Saturday for the students who want to learn Tamil, english and Maths. Nearly 30 students are benefitted from the age group 5 to 22. The curriculam was based on Bible and with Christian values. through this project we were reaching the non-believers who are interested to learn their mother tounge.
Also a youth group was formed with a name ‘Generation ` Christ’. Initialy it was started with 4 youths and now it has reached morethan 25 youths. Every Saturday we have youth club activities in which many youths from different background come togather. Also we conduct three youth camps at every seasons of the year. As a immigrants we are taking seriousnes of the integration in this land, therefore we have made a good relationship with Norwegian Christian fellowship which is encouraging our youths.
With the burden Pr.Anton visited India in 2007 and started the mission, on his visit he visited 7 villages in South India and came to know that the urge among the souls was very high, and the need was very huge but we planned to plant a small village Church become essential to give them the continues teaching of Christ and to lead them to eternal life. By the grace of the Lord, in our initial stage 50 peoples accept Jesus and took baptism. As our ministry is located in interior villages and slums in which the peoples are from very strong Hindu background and orthodox in their idol worship and it is very difficult to do evangelism among them in spite of religious, political and local forces which are against Christianity. To meet this challenge in this mission by the strength, protection and guidance of our Lord we selected 7 Evangelists among those villages who has done Bible study and we taught them at every visit to strengthen them in Bible teaching and in prayers so that we made them equipped to guide and have worship gatherings in houses along with the cell groups. These gatherings held in 7 different places of the believers and do the evangelism to spread the good news and built the kingdom of the Lord. Until now I visit India for every 4 months for mission and by the grace and blessings of the Jesus we have given Baptism for 317 peoples who are living in interior villages and in slums. And we partly support the 7 Evangelist’s families every month for their basic needs. The support what we are providing for each family can only provide their food, and they are struggling for other needs. These Evangelists not only struggling to survive but also working hard to win souls among the strong Hindu religious background. In some incidents they got life threatened warnings. So we feel strongly to be with them not only in prayers but also to support them in their day to day struggle.
In 2008 God has blessed us to plant 7 Churches, since these locations come inside the state of Tamil Nadu, South India and the Tamil speaking state so we planted the Churches with the name of Tamil Baptist Church and we maintain the Churches under Baptist Doctrines. In spring 2009 out of 7 evangelists we selected 4 of them and ordain them as Pastors. Our Churches are located in different districts in the state of Tamil Nadu.
